Photography Composition

My friend recently sent me some images with a link. You can see that this photographer photographed women wearing clothing that camouflages them when they stand in front of the background. I thought that the photographer created a very interesting composition. He has a great eye and some interesting subject matter. The contrasting colors in the photos really brought in my attention as well as how perfectly positioned the woman is in front of the background. It makes me wonder if the clothes were made to go along with the background or the other way around.

Designers and Politics

What role do you feel designers should have in determining political climate and direction? Or what Social responsibilities do designers have?


I think that designers play a major part in our society and not only in politics. Designers create initial specifications in their designs to help generate the appropriate direction they want the viewer to see. Thus it hold the designer responsible for creating designs that have the solutions to help sway a person's decision to go one way or the other.

Patterns

Pattern: N. A decorative design, as for wallpaper, china, or textile fabrics, etc.

This week I want to talk about patterns. Patterns or repetition is one of the principles of art that we as graphic designs know about. To me, patterns have all or some of the principle of art elements some way or another. For example, a wavy pattern can create movement and the proportions of the ‘curved’ wave can be present in the pattern. In any case, my focuses about patterns are how they are created. I have noticed that many websites often use patterns for their backgrounds, layouts, templates etc ... For me; I found these patterns interesting, especially seamless patterns. I often wonder how patterns are made.

How do they do it? How does a designer design such a complex pattern? Those were the questions that I thought about when I see patterns on websites that interested me. Therefore, I set out to try to figure out how seamless patterns are made in my own way. As a result of months of trying and experimenting with pattern making, I finally created my own way to make seamless patterns. I currently have a total of 200+ patterns and here are eight samples of my most recent patterns. Made with Photoshop CS3 and 100x100 pixels each pattern. I guess my next project with patterns will be to try to make them in Illustrator so that the quality is much better.

Connection with Design

"The importance of having a sense of connection within the design community."

What is "a sense of connection," anyways? To me, it's a community that shares the same goal or love... to design. That is the importance of a connection. In this design community, it's a way to interact with others, help, critic, network, share ideas and appreciate design. This connection we share, this goal, allows us to understand each other and creates more ways to interact and express our thoughts or express the thoughts of others (in our jobs) through our designs.

Even sharing the same techniques or styles of design can help strengthen the connection between the members of the design community. However, it is also the difference between our different techniques, styles and even approaches to design that allows us to move forward in the design community. Even mimicking each other’s work and adding a new twist or innovative way to create the same thing creates a sense of connection to one another. Along with this connection also creates competition. Competing against each other also helps create a good rapport. What better way to understand one another than to compete with each other and push each other to better themselves and their designs. This is, to me, why it is important to have a sense of connection within the design community because these are the ways we interact with each other to create that "sense of connection."
